Every Step Counts: My Journey to Support Bosnia's Most Vulnerable

Sabena

Assalaamu ‘alaikum, my name is Sabena.

Last June, I travelled to Bosnia where I met widows, elderly individuals, and vulnerable communities facing ongoing hardship. It was a deeply humbling experience that stayed with me.

This year, I will be returning to Bosnia to reconnect with the people we supported and to witness the impact of the work being carried out on the ground. I will also be taking part in a women’s-only Walk with Purpose to continue raising awareness and support for those in need. My focus will be raising awareness and funds for sustainable projects delivered by Bosnia Trust.

As before, I am self-funding my travel expenses, so every donation will go directly towards supporting vulnerable communities in Bosnia.

Your support will help fund projects such as these:

Cow project

Bosnia Trust and partners realised the benefit of distributing livestock to orphan families and families in hardship when visiting them. Many live in rural areas where agriculture is their primary source of income.

Greenhouse project

In 2023, a new project was rolled out called ‘The Greenhouse Project’. Like other projects the key is to help families become self-sufficient.

By providing a greenhouse to a family facing hardship, they are empowered to cultivate and sustain their own food supply, fostering both self-sufficiency and long-term food security.

Moreover, this initiative is environmentally sustainable, well-suited to Bosnia’s climate, and offers strong potential to generate a stable source of income.

Hairdressing and Cosmetics Course

This project was developed following consultations with the community and local partners in Bosnia.

The Hairdressing and Cosmetician Course is a structured programme designed to train up to 12 participants through practical workshops led by a qualified educator. The course combines hands-on learning as well as equipping participants with the skills needed for employment or self-employment in the beauty sector. Funding will cover educator costs, equipment, materials for each workshop, and individual starter kits to ensure participants can continue practicing beyond the training. Upon completion all participants will receive certificates which will support their progression into income-generating opportunities.

How you can help

Your donation will support sustainable projects delivered by Bosnian Trust, helping communities build self-sufficient and resilient livelihoods.

A little bit about The Bosnia Trust

Bosnia Trust is a community-led initiative supporting those in need across Bosnia-Herzegovina through meaningful, long-term projects and are committed to help alleviate the suffering of the poor and needy inside Bosnia through a number of projects.

I would sincerely appreciate your support—every contribution, no matter the size, has a meaningful impact and helps bring positive change to those in need.

Thank you for helping me support those who need it most 🤍
