Healing Hands, Heartfelt Purpose: A Dentist & Paediatrician Journey to Support Bosnia’s Most Vulnerable

By Zara Rehman and Salma Qureshi

Hello everyone,

My name is Zara and this May, I’ll be traveling to Bosnia with my mother, Salma, a retired Consultant Paediatrician, to deliver direct support to widows, children, elderly individuals, and vulnerable communities facing ongoing hardship.

Having spent our careers caring for patients—me in dental health, and my mother in children’s health—we’ve seen first hand how vital compassionate, accessible care is. Now, we’re extending that care beyond the clinic and into communities that desperately need it.

This trip requires a small personal sacrifice: I’ll be leaving my three young children in Daddy day care while I’m away. But I believe the impact we can make in Bosnia is worth it—and that teaching my children the value of giving back is one of the most important lessons I can offer them.

We’re joining Bosnia Trust’s Women-Only Walk with Purpose, trekking through Bosnia’s landscapes and Your support will fund the following critical, sustainable projects including:

Widows Support Fund

Professional counselling, financial assistance, and training to help widows—many of whom lost their husbands during the war—become financially independent.

Sustainability Fund

E.g. Cow Project: Livestock distributed to orphan families and households in hardship in rural areas.

E.g. Greenhouse Project: fresh food, self-sufficiency and income for families

Adult & Special Needs Care Center

Support for 470 vulnerable individuals.

Our travel costs are self-funded, so every donation you make goes directly toward supporting vulnerable people in Bosnia.

We’ll be visiting the projects in person, meeting the people your generosity will help.

Whether you can give £5, £25, £100, or more—every amount adds up and makes a real difference.

If you’re not able to donate right now, sharing this page is just as valuable.

Thank you for standing with my mother and me, for remembering Bosnia’s widows, children, elderly, and vulnerable communities, and for helping turn our journey into hope for those who need it most.

God bless you.

Thank you for your generosity and Jazakallah Khair.
