Shorif’s Orphan Sponsorship
Help give young children in Sarajevo a strong start in Islamic studies and Qur'an memorisation, for twelve months.
The Prophet ﷺ said that when a person dies, their deeds come to an end except for three: ongoing charity, beneficial knowledge, and a righteous child who prays for them (Sahih Muslim). This appeal brings all three together.
About Rukhsana
Rukhsana Shah is the first female Muslim chaplain in the UK and has served in chaplaincy for around 40 years. She has a background in psychology, Islamic theology and comparative religion, and today she works as both an NHS Chaplain and a University Chaplain. She has spent decades in advocacy and in presenting Islam to the wider public, and she continues her own studies in Islamic theology.
Rukhsana is now working with Bosnia Trust UK to give young children in Sarajevo a strong early start in their faith.
The project
We will fund a female Qur'an teacher for kindergarten-age children. She will teach Islamic studies and run Qur'an memorisation programmes, so children build a love for the Qur'an from their earliest years.
Your gift does two things. It gives young children a connection to the Qur'an that can last a lifetime, and it gives a woman in Sarajevo secure, meaningful work.
Our target: £12,000.
This amount covers the teacher's post for the full twelve months.
Give today
Every verse a child learns and recites could continue to benefit you for years to come. Please give what you can and help Rukhsana reach her target.
