Supporting early education in Sarajevo

New project: supporting early education in Sarajevo

September 2026

Bosnia Trust is proud to announce a new education project in Sarajevo, in partnership with Amel i Nur Preschools, who have been teaching young children in the city since 1998.

Funding has been secured for a twelve-month pilot that pays for a female Qur'an teacher to teach kindergarten-age children. The teacher is employed by the Amel i Nur Citizens' Association, which manages the project day to day, and we will receive progress reports every three months.

The project does two things at once. Young children get a strong, caring start in learning the Qur'an, and a local woman gets secure, meaningful work. For donors, it is Sadaqa Jariah: ongoing charity whose reward continues as long as its benefit does.

Chaplain Rukhsana Shah is fundraising for the project. You can support her appeal here:

We'll share updates from the classroom as the pilot progresses.

Recent Updates

Thanks to your generosity, our Education for Young Children project in Sarajevo is under way. We're delighted to introduce Amina, the teacher your donations are supporting.

Amina has begun teaching the Qur'an to kindergarten-age children at Amel i Nur Preschools, our partner in Sarajevo, helping the city's youngest learners take their first steps with the Qur'an.

About Amina

Amina studied at Sarajevo's renowned Gazi Husrev Bey's Madrasa, completed her memorisation of the Qur'an in 2007, and holds a degree in Arabic Language and Literature from the University of Sarajevo.

Before joining the project she spent more than eight years teaching Qur'an in Sarajevo to children, teenagers and young women. Many of her students have memorised one or more juz, and she has mentored a young student through memorising the entire Qur'an. She is known for her patience, clear teaching and warm, structured classrooms.

What your support is doing

Your donations fund Amina's role for twelve months. Every child she teaches, and every verse they learn, is a lasting Sadaqa Jariah for those who made it possible.

What's next

We'll share further updates from Sarajevo as the project progresses. Thank you for standing with the children of Bosnia.
